A Modest Proposal's latest single upholds Indiana as an alt-punk stomping grounds

Exploding in with a machine gun snare drum intro, you are suddenly blasted through a cannon into a swirl of dreamy-toned vocalization and whirring strings with a sharp drum-driven overtone. Only to land foot on some charging fills and a gritty yell from Mason Bradley (bass/vocals).

“Silly” is a crisp display of punk rock’s raw, tenacious nature; but it is also an homage to the downright madcap that can come with living, just watch the video! It feels like a special home video of them hanging out, recording this song, and simply having some down-home good times.

The track highlights that mistakes will be made in your youth but holds to the age-old lesson of “you don’t have to dwell on those mistakes in order to learn from them and move on.”

A Modest Proposal proves their consistency on this new single by providing a fully rounded song structure. The track starts with a mighty swing of sonicism, then charges toward a finish that seems to…quite literally…just lay down the sticks as the track seems to end abruptly. Which is probably the most “punk rock” thing you could do; just stop shredding and call it a day.

How this track ends reminds me of the time I saw Sum 41 at Warped Tour in 2016 (what the heck is more punk than that?). They ripped and roared through a seven-song set, only to instantly stop after the last song. Deryck Whibley simply said, “Thank you, Indiana! Goodnight!” then they all just grabbed their sticks and their shit and hopped off the stage.

No niceties or long-winded expressions, just…”yep, that’s that!” Many folks may see that as rude but I saw it as impressive.

“Silly” left me with the same impression. Exuberant, battle (of the bands) ready, and super-charged with an amplified heart for what they do…have a damn good time making music. I implore my punk, rock, and all musically savvy friends to not hit skip on this new track. For it only indicates how far A Modest Proposal has come and will continue to go.

Follow them on all social platforms and keep your ears tuned in for more!
