There is a looming, resonant wave of sound that is an irradiant echo resounding from the West. Belonging to LA singer/songwriter and sound navigator, Laviticux. She has this wavy and mysterious sound that is loaded with deep synths and wonderfully rounded harmonics. Not to mention the reverie of reverb that will course through your speakers with a lingering heft.
This soundscape shines brightly on Laviticux’s upcoming single, “Insanity.” Lyrically, it is about the round-and-round you can be doing in your mind sometimes and the utter longing, in those moments, to be lifted out of that heavy whirling feeling that won’t stop circling your thought space. In terms of sound, opaque hit-hats and a fanciful, numbing bump floats you along an entrancing valley of rhythmic digitization.
Moved By Music has been presented with the utmost pleasure of not only stumbling upon Laviticux, but getting to hear this new song in advance and getting to know a little bit more about the artist behind the sound.
MBM: Laviticux! I’m so happy to have this opportunity, to (at least) e-meet you and get to hear your music. I try to ask everybody this so, in essence, when did you first become moved by music? Or, when did you first realize that music was “your thing?”
LAV: I am so honored to do this interview, I cannot thank you enough! I knew I wanted to pursue music ever since I was 7 years old. I remember in elementary school I wanted to start a band so I asked my teachers if I could hang posters up around my school. To my surprise - they did! I feel like that was the start of it all.
MBM: What genres, artists, or even albums would one find in your music library?
LAV: As of lately, I’ve had Kid Cudi’s “Man On the Moon” album on repeat. I really love music that surrounds the listener such as Thom Yorke, Depeche Mode, and Corbin. I’m constantly pulling inspiration from these artists. You can find anything from Prince to Lil Peep in my playlist.
MBM: What do you remember about the music you grew up with?
LAV: One thing that I love about my parents is that they listen to all kinds of genres so I've always been exposed to a plethora of artists. I remember riding around Cleveland with my dad listening to Bone Thugs N Harmony and then coming home to my mom blasting Nirvana in the kitchen. Around this time, Kanye West was dropping all of his classics as well. Thanks to
my older brother, he made sure I knew who he was.
MBM: How did you come about your name and how did you first develop your sound?
LAV: I wish I had a cool story about how I came up with my name but I was sitting in my living room watching The Da Vinci Code when I heard them refer to the book of Leviticus. It felt like the world stood still and I loved how it sounded. I ended up switching a few letters around and got Laviticux. It wasn’t until 2020 when I felt like I really mastered my sound. My friend sent me a few presets on FL Studio and I was finally able to mix my music to my own liking.
MBM: Last but not least, does “Insanity” come with any further project planning or is this a standalone single? (Give as much detail as you’re comfortable with!)
LAV: Yes! “Insanity” is a single off of my next project titled Dark Night of The Soul. It is still a work in progress but I am planning on dropping early 2022. This is my favorite project I’ve worked on thus far. I’m also very excited to show all of my supporters that have been with me since the Scared to Die EP this new sound!
Having been steeped in musicality and introduced to a vast spectrum of sound from a young age, Laviticux has truly taken hold of what is known and what is to be known. In the sense of one’s growth and creative vision in relation to their progression in life. As the world around us grows, changes, and evolves…so does the artist who intakes their surroundings. Where inspiration can be drawn, a wealth of knowledge can certainly be found.
From the sound of “Insanity,” Laviticux seems to be on the verge of releasing a truly sharp, engaging new project with Dark Night of The Soul. Something with sonically visceral pieces that will come together to form quite the multi-layered and cyclical whole. Her soundscape is something that fully encompasses quite the impressionable listening experience; and her discog is only going to continue to bloom and take shape with each tick of the metronome, so don’t hesitate to catch this wave sooner rather than later.
Check out Laviticux on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, SoundCloud, and either start from the beginning or just go on and hit shuffle…either way, you’ll hear why Laviticux is in it to win it!
